Mineral Exploration

The stages of exploration outlined here apply to most ores, including molybdenum, gold, uranium, copper, zinc and nickel.

Finding and Acquiring the Ore Body

Gowest identifies a site for exploration and obtains a title to the mining rights. All relevant permits are acquired before exploration can begin. Gowest will either undertake exploration on its own or in conjunction with a joint venture partner. In some cases, the venture partner may hold the title and Gowest will enter into an agreement to become the operator.

Surveying

Gowest undertakes some form of survey work – a geological or geophysical survey – in order to identify drill targets, particularly in areas of extensive overburden cover.

Assaying

Samples of the mineralization are selected for assay to determine metal content and value.

Should significant mineralization be discovered, substantial additional testing could be required in order to acquire samples for assay to calculate tonnage, grade and value of the deposit.
